Moody Pantry Makeover

DIY Pantry

Hello, beautiful. Our pantry was one of those annoying spaces that always needed some love, but it was never a project I was excited to tackle, so it kept getting pushed down on the list. It was the catch all and storage area for lots of random kitchen gadgets that began to create a giant mess in a small space. I saw ChrislovesJulia makeover their pantry earlier this year by painting everything a dark, crisp brown and was instantly inspired. It was time to tackle ours.

Of course I forgot to take a picture before we took everything out of the pantry (Is anyone else as impatient as me?) When you live in a 100 year old home, you quickly learn that although things function, it’s not always safe or pretty. Once we got everything out of this space, we realized you could see outside through the cracks in the corner. Lovely.

Pantry Makeover

We started by removing all the shelving. We ended up having to replace all of the shelves, but kept the shelving brackets. The walls were in rough shape, but we didn’t want to completely replace the sheetrock, so we used lots of joint compound to smooth everything out. We used a 1x6 board with a shoe molding for the trim and it.made.all.the.difference. Anyone else feel like trim brings everything together? It’s one of my favorite things. We caulked everything possible and then it was on to paint!

Dark Pantry

Everyone thought I was crazy for choosing to paint our entire pantry black, but I stuck to my guns (as I usually do) and I am really glad I did. My dad always says paint covers a multitude of sins and this pantry is proof that he’s not wrong. We went with Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams and I love everything about it.

An organized pantry is a happy pantry. No, really. After we were finished, I found myself spending a lot of time in this space just gazing at the perfectly organized shelves and smiling. Does organization make anyone else happy? Obviously, I didn’t want to throw everything back in that we took out, so I scoured Amazon for bins and baskets to help keep everything in its place. We also added a motion sensor light fixture and I don’t think I realized how much I was going to love it. If you have been wanting a pantry makeover, let me be there first to tell you: DO IT.
