The Best Ways to use Wallpaper in 2021
Wallpaper has made a big comeback in recent years and unlike the 90’s, it’s not necessarily used to cover every square inch of a room. There are many creative uses for wallpaper and I hope this post with spark an idea for your next project!
With Paneling. Paneling is a popular design choice to add texture to a space. If you want to take your paneling game to the next level, add a complimenting wallpaper to make an impression. This entryway by Magnolia Homes is a showstopper and packs a big punch into a small area. The possibilities are endless with this duo (shiplap, bead board, tile, etc) and you should definitely consider it for your next update.
In a bathroom. In small spaces like a bathroom, even a minimal amount of wallpaper can have a big impact. However, there is one important thing you need to keep in mind when considering a bathroom: moisture and wallpaper don’t mix well. Moisture can cause wallpaper to peel and wet wallpaper is the ideal place for mold to grow. If you are thinking about installing in a bathroom consider the half bath. Without a shower there is no steam, therefore a lot less moisture to cause problems. If you do choose to go the bathroom route, be sure to apply mold-proof primer to help with the moisture issue.
In a playroom. Playrooms are a necessary area when you have young kids at home and what better way to make it more fun than with wallpaper. I would suggest picking a dominant color for the space and selecting a wallpaper option that pairs well. Playrooms are meant to be fun, so this is a space to be extra creative with.
As a mural. Wallpaper murals are a really unique way to create an impactful focal point in a space. A scene that would take many hours to be painted can be displayed in a portion of the time and still look beautiful. This is such a unique way to create a space that people will always remember.
On the ceiling. One of my favorite uses for wallpaper. Ceilings are often the forgotten feature of a room that have so much untapped potential. When there are countless decisions to make, it’s easy to forget about the ceiling — I get it. However, if you truly want to elevate a room, don’t forget the ceiling. Adding beams or shiplap are lovely options, but wallpaper is sometimes (not always) a more affordable option and always one worth considering.
As an accent. Whether it’s built-in shelving, a reading nook or a little desk, adding wallpaper can really bring a tiny area to life. What would normally be a plain, unexciting backdrop, is now a striking addition that adds texture and character to a little space.
